Football Manager 20 Wonderkids Who Were Bought By Big Clubs

We all have our favourites, don’t we? You start up your new Football Manager save and you know exactly who to buy. Those wonderkids. The ole reliables. Sadly, heading into the FM21, which I can’t stress enough is available for measly £29.99 through our website, many of those have been snapped up during one of the most unpredictable windows of the modern era. So today, I am going to share with you the five players I am going to miss the most heading into the new game.

5. Ruben Dias

Ruben Dias is one of the most versatile centre-backs in FM20 and will absolutely continue that trend into FM21. With 150 current ability and 171 potential ability, Ruben Dias was everyone’s go-to when managing a top European side. In the base game, his release clause of £51 million was seen as an absolute bargain and was a mainstay in defence of many of my teams. However, that is all set to change this year. Following a £65 million move to Manchester City, the Portuguese international has been snapped up by one of the wealthiest clubs in the game on a six (Yes, SIX) year deal. If you manage to get Dias out of Manchester City in FM21, you must have saved some serious transfer budget… or used the editor, I won’t judge.

4. Rayan Aït-Nouri

Aït-Nouri was perhaps the highest potential Left-Back in FM20. His pace and power made him such a strong contender for many sides in FM20. Supported by the fact he played for Angers, he was available for reasonably cheap throughout the game. Despite signing a three-year deal with Angers just a few months ago, the French youth international has joined Wolves on a season-long loan with an option to buy. This is perhaps even more frustrating for FM players than Dias as it suggests it may not be available until at least two seasons into your save.

3. Kai Havertz

He wasn’t cheap before and he won’t be cheap now. Kai Havertz sealed a move to English giants, Chelsea, back in September for £71 million making him Chelsea’s second most expensive signing ever; after the disastrous Kepa Arrizabalaga. FM fans will be expecting Havertz not suffer the same fate, however, mainly due to his incredible potential in FM20; which will surely be carried over into FM21. He has a set potential of 180, one of the highest in the game, and anyone who managed a top side looked to buy him almost immediately. Tall, quick, creative and with an eye for goal, Havertz is one of the most versatile attackers in Football Manager in recent memory. Lucky for you, Chelsea are one of my top 5 teams to manage in FM21 so perhaps you can still enjoy his greatness from the comfort of Stamford Bridge. On the other hand, trying to get him out of Chelsea, will be difficult but we suspect he is probably worth it.

2. Sandro Tonali

I don’t know whether this just happens on my saves but when I heard the rumours of a Sandro Tonali transfer, I fully expected him to sign for Man Utd; because that seems to be the only club he ever plays for on my games. But, I digress, Tonali stayed in his homeland signing for AC Milan on a season-long loan for €10 million with an option to buy for €15 million. Any FM player knows how much of a steal that is; Tonali is comfortably the best defensive midfielder in the game. He is a tackling powerhouse with the passing range of his long compared Andrea Pirlo. While Brescia aren’t the wealthiest club by any stretch, they always held firm on their prized asset; forcing a high price for many players throughout FM20. Much like Aït-Nouri, he won’t be available for the first two seasons but if you can lure him away from the Rossoneri, you will have some player on your hands.

Fabio Silva

In the words of Michael Jordan, this one was personal for me. I’m a Villa fan so my relationship with Wolves has always been relatively strenuous but this transfer tipped me over the edge. Following his £35 million transfer to Molineux, my pride and joy of FM20 has been snatched from me and anyone who used Silva will know why. Quick, versatile and an absolute goal machine, Fabio Silva, in my opinion, was the biggest loss in FM21. While his initial current ability may not be the strongest, at just 17, the young Portuguese international would go on to become a world-beating striker very early on in nearly all of my saves; especially when I purchased him for Barcelona. His record below speaks for itself and that’s why losing him in FM21 is the hardest of goodbyes.
